Trichome single, not forming a thallus
Trichomes are brown to dark-red in color
Cells distinctly separated with conspicuous constrictions at crosswalls
Cylindrical cells are longer than broad (4-6

m long)
Cells often barrel-shaped with rounded or oval ends
Trichomes range from 2-3
µ
m in diameter
Sheath absent
Exhibit creeping movements
