| Trichomes are dark green to blue-green in color |
| Cells distinctly placed from one another with conspicuous constrictions at crosswalls |
| Cylindrical cells are longer than broad (2-4 µm long) |
| Cells often barrel-shaped with rounded or oval ends |
| Trichomes range from 1-3 µm in diameter |
| Sheath may be present |
| False-branching may occur when sheath present |
| Non-motile, except for hormogonia free from sheath |
